How Square One Builders Was Born in Westminster

We didn’t start Square One Builders because we saw an opening in the market. We started it because of a phone call we couldn’t stop thinking about.

Call (877) 688-9930

Back in 2014, a homeowner in Westminster called us about a remodeling job that had gone sideways. Another company had torn out her kitchen, taken the deposit, and then stopped showing up. She’d been living with a microwave and a cooler in her garage for six weeks. When we went out to look at the house, what struck us wasn’t the mess. It was how she kept apologizing for the state of things, as if she’d done something wrong. She hadn’t done anything wrong except trust the wrong people.

That was the moment. We’d spent years in the trades by then, and we’d seen too many homeowners in Westminster and the surrounding north Orange County cities feel embarrassed, confused, or taken advantage of by an industry that talked over their heads and underdelivered. We knew there had to be a different way to run a construction company. One that starts with a written estimate and a straight answer, not a sales pitch. One where the person who shakes your hand is the same person accountable for the work. So we built it.

Our Founder’s Personal Connection to the Construction Trade

This trade got into our blood early, and it never left. The first time we picked up a framing hammer, we were young and not particularly good at it. But there was something about the rhythm of the work that made sense: measure twice, cut once, and when something isn’t square, you don’t argue with it. You fix it.

We spent more than 10 years working for other people’s construction companies before 2014, learning the trade the slow way. We learned how to read a set of plans on a jobsite in Stanton, how to pour concrete that won’t crack when the Santa Ana winds dry it out too fast, how to frame a wall that stays true through a decade of Orange County sun. We learned the smell of fresh-cut lumber and the particular weight of a day spent on your feet. And we learned what happens when a company cares more about the next job than the one in front of them.

That last lesson was the one that stuck. We’ve walked into homes in Garden Grove and Fountain Valley where the previous contractor’s work looked fine from the street and fell apart the moment you looked behind the drywall. We’ve had to tear out and redo work that never should have passed inspection. It wore on us, because we knew the family living there had paid good money and put their trust in someone who didn’t honor it.

What gets us out of bed now is simpler than it sounds: the chance to do the job right and to leave a family genuinely better off than we found them. Not with a grand story, but with straight walls, a solid foundation, and an estimate they didn’t have to cross-examine. If we weren’t doing this, we’d probably still be building something with our hands. We just wouldn’t be doing it for anyone else’s bottom line.

Meet Our Team – The Person Behind Every Job

The person behind Square One Builders is our Owner & Founder, a builder who came up through the trade the long way: apprenticing under experienced tradesmen, working jobsites from Huntington Beach to Anaheim, and eventually taking on the responsibility of running a company where the workmanship finally matched the promises.

Our founder is trained in residential construction and remodeling, with more than a decade of hands-on experience before launching Square One Builders in 2014. But the credential that matters most to our customers isn’t a certificate on a wall. It’s the fact that our founder has been the one swinging the hammer, mixing the mud, and pulling the measurements on this kind of work for years. There’s no gap between what we promise and what we can actually do.

Outside of work, our founder is the kind of person who can’t walk past a crooked gate without mentally fixing it. That habit of noticing the details, whether it’s a slightly out-of-level countertop or a homeowner who’s nervous about the scope of a project, is exactly what we want leading every job. We’re not interested in being the biggest construction company in Westminster. We’re interested in being the one you’d recommend to your sister without hesitating.

Our Promise to Westminster Homeowners

We keep our promises simple because simple promises are the only ones worth making. First, we give honest pricing. That means a written, line-item estimate before work begins, so you can see exactly where your money goes and ask questions about any line. No vague allowances, no surprise change orders slipped in mid-project.

Second, we use quality parts and materials. When we install a roof in Cypress or replace windows in La Palma, we use products from manufacturers we trust, like CertainTeed and Owens Corning, because the long-term performance of the job depends on what’s under the surface.

Third, we stand behind every job. We walk the finished work with you, we answer the phone after the final check clears, and we come back if something isn’t right. That’s not a marketing line. It’s how a company behaves when the owner’s name is on the work.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed: Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires. No exceptions.
  • Insured & bonded: Our network standards require the coverage homeowners deserve before any work begins.
  • Years of local experience: We’ve been serving Westminster and nearby cities since 2014, and our founder has more than a decade in the trade before that.
  • Strong local reputation: We’ve built our name the slow way, one completed project and one satisfied homeowner at a time across Westminster, Midway City, Stanton, Garden Grove, Cypress, Fountain Valley, La Palma, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Buena Park, Santa Ana, and Fullerton.

Why does this matter to you? Because hiring someone to work in your home is one of the biggest trust decisions you’ll make. A license means the work will be held to a legal standard. Insurance and bonding mean you’re protected if something goes wrong. And a local track record means you can ask around and hear the same thing we’d tell you ourselves: this company does what it says it will do.

Rooted in Westminster

Westminster isn’t just where our office is. It’s where we do our grocery shopping, where we know which streets flood during a heavy winter rain, and where we’ve watched neighborhoods change and grow since long before Square One Builders existed. We’ve worked on homes near Westminster Mall, on properties tucked back off Bolsa Avenue, and on quiet cul-de-sacs in neighborhoods most people pass without ever knowing their names. This community isn’t a territory to us. It’s home, and we build like it.
